All of my ficus live on my south facing covered porch, except my ficus lyrata, it’s too big! They all love it out there and have been pushing out new growth what seems like daily.

Snow Queen vs Marble Queen. That is the hot debate lately—-I say they’re the same plant! Considered ‘Snow Queen’ when it’s allowed to get more light and the variegation is more white instead of green.

’ve been super into propagating lately because all my plants have been taking off and growing like crazy! Some things I’ve learned about propagating over the years:

I sit in my sunroom and look over my plants, planning out in my head which ones need a repot, which need water, and where I can fit more.

Maranta, Calathea and Stromanthe all require similar care. Keeping them in medium indirect light is helpful, a few feet back from the west or south window or right near an east or north window would work. If they get too much bright light it can bleach their leaves, but not enough light will make them look sickly and pale as well.

If you want a statement plant, this is it. Each new leaf is larger than the last and they’ll quickly fill out a corner and add amazing height.

I’ve found the number one reason succulents don’t thrive is lack of light. Most would say they die from overwatering, which could technically be true, but even the perfectly watered succulent will die a slow death if it’s not getting the proper amount of light.

The fiddle leaf fig (ficus lyrata) is the plant I get the most questions about. Most owners say they’ve lost most of their leaves, aren’t seeing new growth, or have large brown patches on the foliage.

Pilea are a fun succulent-like plant. Most are very sensitive to overwatering, because they hold so much moisture in the stem and leaves. You usually don’t notice a watering issue until it’s too late. I like to let my Pilea’s soil dry out completely before giving them a nice big drink.

I wanted to do an update on the Kalanchoe luciae I ‘chopped and propped’ a while ago. It has definitely taken off and all the pieces I put in the pot are well-rooted and growing.
